A. Clayborn Hendricks, DDS


Dr. Clay Hendricks is the founder of Hendricks Family Dentistry, where he and his wife, Amy, and son, Dr. Harlan Hendricks, have focused on creating an environment of care and trust for their staff and growing family of patients. 

Dr. Hendricks was raised in LaGrange, Georgia, and graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1971. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the Medical College of Virginia (now Virginia Commonwealth University) in 1976.  Upon graduation, he was inducted into the prestigious OKU, a national dental honor society reserved for dental students who have distinguished themselves by excellence in scholarship, while demonstrating exemplary traits of character and potential qualities for future professional growth and attainment of clinical skills.  Following a year of general practice residency at Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center in New York, he began practicing dentistry in Virginia Beach in 1977. He is currently a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, and the Tidewater Dental Association. 

Education, awareness of industry advancements, and meeting the changing needs of patients have been the cornerstones of his career. He has served as an Adjunct Clinical Professor at VCU School of Dentistry since 2004, and has helped many dental students by developing their clinical skills and instilling a passion for the dental profession.

As a progressive thinker and industry leader, Dr. Hendricks co-founded Atlantic Dental Care, PLC, a corporation presently made up of 70 dental practices. Along with his general dentistry practice, he has always believed in giving back to his community. Most recently, Dr. Hendricks has been instrumental in developing the volunteer-based dental program at Beach Health Clinic, where he serves on the Board of Directors.  Outside of dentistry, Dr. Hendricks loves being in nature – hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, kayaking, gardening and beekeeping.


Harlan K Hendricks, DDS


Dr. Harlan Hendricks is a Virginia Beach native and graduated from Wake Forest University in 2004.  He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry in 2008, where he was inducted into the esteemed OKU, the national dental honor society limited to dental students who have distinguished themselves by excellence in scholarship, while demonstrating exemplary traits of character and potential qualities for future professional growth and attainments in clinical skills.  After completing a one year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the University of Florida - St. Petersburg Dental Clinic, he returned to Virginia Beach and joined Hendricks Family Dentistry in 2009. He is currently a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, and an officer for the Tidewater Dental Association. 

Dr. Hendricks believes in giving his patients access to the latest advancements in dental techniques and cutting edge technology. As a member and participant in numerous dental study clubs, he is able to match what is current and available in the industry with the needs of his patients.  He has been recognized by the Virginia Dental Journal in their “40 Under 40” feature representing today’s generation of dental professionals.  In addition, he has regularly been nominated to Coastal Virginia Magazine’s “Top Dentist” List and Virginia Living’s topDentists List.

He loves being involved in education and the community. As an Adjunct Clinical Professor, he has taught students at both the VCU School of Dentistry in Richmond and the Park Place Dental Center in Norfolk. Dr. Hendricks has traveled abroad to Honduras and Ghana on dental/medical mission projects. In addition, he has volunteered with projects organized by M.O.M. (Mission of Mercy), Homeless Connect, and the American Dental Association’s Give Kids A Smile program.  In his free time, he enjoys soccer, skiing, travel, and attending concerts and Norfolk Forum lectures.  His wife, Dr. Jean Hendricks, is a pediatrician with Tidewater Children’s Associates.  They have two sons, Anderson and Grant, and a rescue dog, Rome, whom they both adore.  Dr. Hendricks serves on the Middle Plantation Civic League Board, and the Hendricks family are members of Christ Community Church.


Olivia Lyons, DDS


Dr. Olivia Trancik Lyons is originally from Carmel, Indiana. She graduated with Highest Distinction from Purdue University in 2015, earning the prestigious induction into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. In 2019, she achieved her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Indiana University.

Following her graduation, Dr. Lyons pursued further education by completing a General Practice Residency at the Hampton VA Medical Center in Hampton, VA, in 2020. She continued working there until January 2023, where she gained extensive expertise in caring for veterans with complex medical and dental histories. Notably, she also contributed as faculty for the Hampton VA Medical Center's residency program during this period, demonstrating her commitment to the dental profession.

Dr. Lyons is committed to providing compassionate care to her patients. She aims to create a stress-free experience, making each visit a positive and reassuring one for her patients. Her professional affiliations include membership in the American Dental Association and the Virginia Dental Association, reflecting her dedication to the highest standards of dental practice.

Dr. Lyons lives in Virginia Beach with her husband, Russell, and their rescue dog, Murphy. In her free time, she enjoys running, playing tennis, being out on the water, and traveling.
